Getting Started with Themys
Set up Themys and run your first Terms of Service scan in under 5 minutes.
What is Themys?
Themys automatically analyzes Terms of Service and privacy policies, flagging clauses worth reviewing and assigning an attention level so you know where to focus.
Install the Chrome Extension
The fastest way to use Themys is through the Chrome extension:
- Install from the Chrome Web Store
- Or load it unpacked for development:
- Clone the repo and run pnpm build:extension
- Navigate to chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode
- Click Load unpacked and select the extension/dist folder
Note: The extension requires a Themys account to function. Sign up first if you haven't already.
Create Your Account
- Go to themys.ca and click Sign Up
- Create a free account with Apple or Google sign-in
- The free tier includes 5 scans per day, no credit card required
Your First Scan
With the Chrome Extension
- Navigate to any website's Terms of Service or Privacy Policy page
- The extension automatically detects ToS content and displays an overlay
- Review the attention level, flagged clauses, and extracted details directly on the page
With the Web App
- Go to themys.ca/scan/new
- Paste the URL of any Terms of Service page
- Click Analyze and wait for results
Understanding Your Results
Every scan produces three key outputs:

| Attention Level | A qualitative label showing where to focus your review |
| Flagged Clauses | Specific sections that raise concerns, with explanations |
| Full Extraction | The complete structured text of the ToS for reference |
Attention Levels
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Standard | Typical clauses with lower review priority |
| Worth reviewing | Some clauses are worth reading before agreeing |
| Needs attention | Clauses deserve careful review before accepting |
